4 of the Most Common Car Repairs

October 5, 2023

One of the most common automotive services that is offered is an oil change. Every car needs routine oil changes. However, this is just one of many common repairs that all vehicle owners need to keep in mind. There are many reasons why you may need to visit a car repair expert. Here are a few of the most common automotive repairs.

1. Replacing Spark Plugs

Spark plugs play an important role in providing your engine with the power it needs. However, as they are used, they start to wear out. Each car is slightly different, but as a general rule of thumb, you should have your spark plugs replaced about every 30,000 miles. If you don't replace your spark plugs regularly, you will be able to tell in your engine performance. Your car can idle unevenly, lag when accelerating, cause your engine to misfire, or decrease your fuel efficiency.

2. Changing Brake Pads

Many factors affect how long the brake pad lasts, including your driving habits and the type of pad or shoe that is on your car. Brake pads can last anywhere from 30,000 to 50,000 miles. If you notice squeaking when you press on your brake pads, you likely need a car repair to replace them. If you fail to replace them, and the pad wears out, you will start to hear and feel grinding as the empty metal pad holder grinds into your brake rotors.

3. Completing Tire Repairs and Replacement

Tires repairs and tire replacement are other common types of car repairs that are completed. Your tires can develop small punctures due to rocks or nails. Patches or plugs may be used to repair damage. When your tire tread is low, your tires need to be replaced.

4. Replacing Oxygen Sensors

Most oxygen sensors last about 60,000 to 90,000 miles. If your check engine light comes on and you're within this range, you should suspect that this is the cause. If this sensor goes bad, your car may drive sluggishly, may stall unexpectedly, and may get fewer miles per gallon. Your car will also fail most state smog or emissions tests if this part is going bad or is bad.
